E-mobility solution for fleets
On the path to becoming a climate-friendly company
Markus Heel
Pioneer of the energy transition
Make the company climate-friendly: With his company Heel Energie, installation contractor Markus Heel is a positive example of how climate-friendly small and medium-sized enterprises are going on the offensive and driving the energy transition through e-mobility. Here you can read about how he charges his vehicle fleet in a climate-friendly way.
The story
Fuel prices are rising, and combustion engines are acquiring an image problem and losing acceptance among the population. The challenges facing small and medium-sized enterprises with their own vehicle fleets are highly relevant. This applies to companies that want to be ahead of the curve when it comes to innovation and climate neutrality in particular, and installation contractor Markus Heel with his company Heel Energie - which has just under 30 employees - is no exception.
Markus Heel has been generating solar power for a long time using the Sunny Tripower CORE1 and roof-mounted PV modules. He also recently changed the company's fleet over to electric vehicles (EVs). There are now ten charging stations in the courtyard, with one specially reserved for visitors. What spurred Markus Heel to make the change was the prospect of generating and using his own energy and, at the same time, becoming CO2-free. With his fleet, he keeps operating costs low and avoids high fuel costs. Becoming climate-neutral is paying off.
Objectives
Become climate-friendly as a company with its own fleet of vehicles.
Solution
Install a complete SMA Commercial Energy Solution with fully integrated charging infrastructure and further energy generation from a combined heat and power plant.
Result
- Climate-friendly off-grid power supply in case of a utility grid failure.
- Thanks to the integrated system from SMA, external components can also be connected and self-sufficiency ensured for longer.
- Affordable mobility thanks to the avoidance of expensive fuel costs.
Gradually becoming a self-sufficient, climate-neutral company.
Refueling now means using clean energy from the solar roof - with the SMA EV Charger Business. Two heat pumps on the roof of the main building are used for heating. The rest of the power goes into the battery-storage system. In the event of a power outage, Markus Heel could restore the power after just five seconds thanks to the off-grid system from SMA. Thanks to the combined heat and power plant, Heel and his company could even operate self-sufficiently for over a year and a half.
Markus Heel is motivated by the desire to actively help shape the energy transition.
Everything has worked very well so far. The combination of charging solution, PV system and electricity storage system makes his company a successful example of a carbon-friendly SME.
Now take a look at our documentary.
The SMA Commercial Energy Solution of Markus Heel
Heating, charging, saving. One system for everything.
With SMA, Markus Heel and his company can contribute to climate neutrality and save on costs at the same time. Thanks to their modular design, the individual components were integrated bit by bit into the system without any problems. Now, the complete solution from SMA makes it possible to charge Heel Energie's entire fleet of EVs, operate the company's own combined heat and power plant and ensure self-sufficiency for years to come.
Fossil-free heat supply for a climate-neutral company
When the first rays of sunshine strike the roof at Heel Energie, the supply of heat from the company's own combined heat and power plant in the cellar begins. Three centralized, free-standing Sunny Tripower CORE1 inverters ensure optimum energy generation and the operation of the heating system. In turn, inside the building, the SMA Data Manager M operates in conjunction with the SMA Monitoring to intelligently monitor the energy flows. Once the desired temperature has been reached, for example, the system redirects the power to the energy storage device.
CO2-free driving thanks to an intelligent charging infrastructure
Most recently, Markus Heel installed a fully integrated charging network in the sophisticated SMA Commercial Energy Solution so that he could run his company vehicles without fossil fuels and thus save on fuel costs. The SMA EV Charger Business system at Heel Energie consists of ten free-standing charging stations. The existing energy manager takes care of charging management so that all the vehicles are ready to go in the morning. Thanks to the SMA backend for charging infrastructure, Markus Heel can manage his charging points and also easily bill for the electricity he uses.
Climate-neutral self-sufficiency thanks to SMA Sunny Island
The remaining solar energy that has not been directly fed in goes into the battery-storage system from BYD. The integrated system from SMA also allows Markus Heel to connect external components. At nightfall, the storage solution can be used to supply the entire building and the EV fleet - even in the event of grid failure. The uninterruptible power supply is made possible by SMA Sunny Island. Markus Heel can supply the company in this way - climate-neutrally and off-grid - for a year and half.
"Helping to shape the energy transition is great fun."
