The Sunny Boy Smart Energy is the ideal gateway to an all-round energy transition in the home. As a PV and battery inverter in one, it ensures a reliable and sustainable supply of energy. Thanks to the integrated secure power supply for selected loads and an optional full-home backup function for both 1- and 3-phase installations, it will continue to operate even if the utility grid fails.

Maximum solar energy

Three MPP trackers allow varying roof orientations to be incorporated into plans for solar power production. The hybrid inverter offers very fast charging for connected batteries and makes the most of days with few hours of sunshine.

Heat pumps, charging solutions for electric vehicles and smart energy management can be flexibly integrated into the energy system at any time. This means greater independence from rising energy costs and conventional energy supplies. With the Sunny Boy Smart Energy, users can expect the high standard of quality that comes with a product made in Germany.

SMA Backup

The SMA Backup solution for installations with the Sunny Boy Smart Energy ensures reliable power supply, even during outages. Thanks to the automatic and seamless transition between on- and off-grid mode, households remain reliably powered at all times.

Available as an external box for single-phase systems (SMA Backup 1P) or a compact built-in solution for three-phase installations (SMA Backup 3P Kit), it reliably supplies all household appliances. With an exceptionally low standby consumption of just 1 W, it combines efficiency and security to effortlessly bridge unexpected power outages with the help of the sun.

When will the Sunny Boy Smart Energy be available?

The market introduction of the Sunny Boy Smart Energy is planned for Q1/ 2024. It will be available in Germany, Benelux, Spain and Italy depending on country-specific certification. Australia, as well as further European countries will follow in 2024.

How do I get an offer for the new Sunny Boy Smart Energy in a complete PV system – including battery-storage system?

As an installer, you can order the Sunny Boy Smart Energy from a local distributor of SMA solutions in those countries where the inverter is available.

Yes, the Sunny Boy Smart Energy can be combined with the SMA EV Charger via the Sunny Home Manager 2.0.

What is the duration of the warranty for the Sunny Boy Smart Energy?

The duration of the standard warranty for the Sunny Boy Smart Energy X is 5 years. The owner can get 5 year’s extra warranty by registering his inverter in the Online Service Center. More information can be found here.

Is east–west alignment possible with the Sunny Boy Smart Energy?

Yes. The three integrated MPP trackers also allow configurations like this with the Sunny Boy Smart Energy.

Is a surge protection device integrated?

A Surge protection device can be optionally connected on the DC side. They are offered as type 1+2 and type 2 as accessories from 3rd party companies.

Can I operate multiple Sunny Boy Smart Energy devices in a single system?

You can operate multiple Sunny Boy Smart Energy inverters in a single system. It is not possible however to use multiple Sunny Boy Smart Energy inverters in one system with the Sunny Home Manager.

Is it possible to add further PV inverters to the system?

Yes, this is possible. Furthermore the Sunny Boy Smart Energy is then able to charge from both DC and AC side.

Are special training sessions available for the Sunny Boy Smart Energy?

Does the Sunny Boy Smart Energy come with SMA ArcFix?

Yes, the inverter has SMA ArcFix integrated.

What is the maximum capacity of the SPS (Secured Power Supply) functionality?

The maximum capacity will be that of a normal outlet: 16 A at 230 V which results in max. 3680 W.

Are there capacity limits (minimum and maximum) for SMA battery? and for other battery suppliers?

The capacity limits are coming from the maximal voltage of the battery system. The modules will be connected in series and with each battery module the voltage will increase. Due to the voltage limitation by 500V, it is possible to connect maximum 4 SMA Home Storage modules. For batteries from other manufacturers, it is important to check the maximal voltage of the battery system.

Is it possible to include a heat pump into the system?

Yes, thanks to the SG ready, EEbus and SEMP contact included in the Sunny Boy Smart Energy it is possible to add a heat pump to a system. A Sunny Home Manager is also required.

Is it possible to monitor the individual strings connected to each MPP Tracker?

It is possible to monitor each string individually via Sunny Portal powered by ennexOS on the Analysis Pro page.

Are the backup functionality and the Secure Power functionality mutually exclusive?

Yes, they are, because they use the same output.

Can the backup functionality and the Secure Power functionality be installed later?

Yes, both can be installed later.
