Utility-scale PV power plant – Mauritania, 2013
Sheikh Zayed Solar PV Plant – 15 MW
The PV project was developed by Masdar, Abu Dhabi, and constructed by Enviromena. It will provide 10 percent of the countries’ energy capacity.
Mauritania consists mainly of desert. The electricity grid which is powered mostly by expensive diesel generators has an installed capacity of only 144 MW. The Sheikh Zayed Solar PV Plant is supplying about 10,000 homes with clean energy.
